WELCOME to Takoma Park! Fondly referred to as ‘Azalea City’, Takoma Park sits on a historical district with charming craftsman and bungalow style houses and the picturesque Long Branch and Sligo Creeks, which flow through the area.
A city of the people, the Takoma Park community unites for neighborhood associations, civic groups, and arts organizations which have and continue to culminate in concerts, exhibits, political crusades, dances, neighborhood parties, quilting bees, and volunteer action projects. Known for hosting a bevy of events including the Takoma Park Street Festival, Independent Film Festival and Jazz Fest, but the most renown is the Takoma Park Folk Festival, which attracts an audience from across the mid-Atlantic region. This annual event celebrates the areas cultural diversity, with a variety of ethnic foods, crafts and music from around the world.
Takoma Park is a forward thinking, green city. It is an official Tree City USA, a nuclear free zone, has an award-winning recycling program, supports the work of historic preservation groups and was home of the first Sunday farmers market in the Washington
area. The Takoma Park farmers market continues to grow and expand the range and availability of the products it offers-from heirloom tomatoes and variegated sweet corn to free-range eggs and exotic bouquets; a great resource to supporters of locally grown produce.
The Metrorail station connecting Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia is conveniently situated in the heart of downtown Takoma Park, enabling easy commuting between regions.

High School 9-12
Montgomery Blair, the home base high school for Takoma Park students, is part of the Downcounty Consortium High School Cluster (DCC). The DCC includes Montgomery Blair HS, Albert Einstein HS, John F Kennedy HS, Northwood HS, and Wheaton HS. In grade 8, each student in the DCC has the opportunity to participate in the High School Choice Process where he or she can apply to a high school other than his or her base area school. Each high school in the cluster offers distinctive academy programs and course work.
