An artistic and cultural community, downtown Silver Spring has several family events throughout the year including the Ethnic Heritage Festival, Holiday parade, Outdoor Music Festival and Silver Spring Swings Summer Concert series. During weekends, the downtown area is a hive of activity with the Fenton Street markets, concerts, film festivals, art exhibitions and seasonal activities like ice skating to enjoy. Silver Spring is home to a range of wonderful resources for entertainment and culture including the Discovery Center headquarters, Pyramid Atlantic Art Center, the Fillmore, the American Film Institute and the 20 screens of the Majestic Theater.
Just one mile away from downtown Silver Spring is the beautiful Sligo Creek Park, which is home to a winding wooded creek, playgrounds, a golf course, numerous hiking and biking trails and soccer fields. Sligo Creek Park is a favorite hangout for outdoor lovers, kids and dogs alike, particularly during spring and fall when the changing trees are at their most stunning.
Silver Spring is one of the largest transport hubs in MD with the transit center including Metro rail, Metro bus, Ride-on and MARC commuter service. Washington DC is an easy fifteen minute commute on the metro or by bus. This fantastic location is convenient to the beltway and within 30 minutes of Baltimore, Annapolis, the White House, Tysons Corner, Alexandria, Reagan and BWI Airports.

SCHOOLS

High Schools 9-12
Montgomery Blair, Albert Einstein, Northwood, and Wheaton are the home base high schools for the Silver Spring, close-in communities of 20910, 20901and 20902 and are part of the Downcounty Consortium High School Cluster (DCC), which also includes John F Kennedy. In grade 8, each student in the DCC has the opportunity to participate in the High School Choice Process where he or she can apply to a high school other than his or her base area school. Each high school in the cluster offers distinctive academy programs and course work. Bethesda-Chevy Chase is the high school for students living in a limited area at the western border of Silver Spring 20910. Springbrook and Blake are the home base high schools for a limited area at the south eastern border of 20901 and belong to the Northeast Consortium High School Cluster. Northeast Consortium students also participate in the High School Choice Process.
